Questions about paying
Does Nyumba hold my rent money?
No. Tenants pay into your bank's paybill, your own M-Pesa paybill or till, or your M-Pesa number, so rent goes straight to you. Nyumba only records each payment and sends the receipt.
What will I pay?
Your plan's monthly price, plus tenant SMS beyond your plan's allowance, charged to your card at the end of each month. You get an itemised receipt by email each time. Nothing is ever taken from your rent. Messages sent to you and sign-in codes are never charged.
Why do you need my card to start?
Plans are billed to your card automatically so your account never lapses by accident. We make a small check charge to confirm the card and refund it straight away. Nothing else is charged until your 14-day trial ends.
What happens on Mwanzo after the trial?
You keep collecting rent and tenants keep paying as before. Payments are kept waiting instead of being confirmed, and tenants with a payment waiting aren't sent overdue reminders. Upgrade to a plan with automatic confirmation and every waiting payment is applied with its original date.
What if a tenant pays cash or by bank transfer?
Record it in Nyumba with the date and reference. It's applied to their oldest unpaid rent and they get an SMS receipt, just like an M-Pesa payment.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from your Subscription page. You keep your plan until the end of the month you've paid for. After that your account is read-only: you can still see and export everything, and your tenants can still pay rent.
